§ *THE SECRETARY TO THE TREASURY (Mr. JACKSON,) Leeds, N.The vacancy at the Post Office, South Street, Ponders End, was reported to the Treasury on April 22nd. On May 11th the name of Mr. Smith, then the only applicant, was sent forward for the approval of the Postmaster General. It was not till May 23rd that the application of Mr. Cooler, the son of the late postmaster, was for the first time brought to the knowledge of the Treasury. The appointment having then been made, the application could not be considered.
