HC Deb 15 June 1891 vol 354 cc499-500

Considered in Committee.

(In the Committee.)

Clause 1.

Amendment proposed, In page 1, line 25, after "woodlands," insert * Provided that nothing in this yet shall apply to any rate made under either of the said sections on or before the first day of October one thousand eight hundred and ninety-one."—(Mr. Cust.)

Amendment agreed to.

Motion made, and Question proposed, "That the Clause, as amended, stand part of the Bill."

DR. TANNER (Cork Co., Mid)

As a matter of fact, few Members have made themselves acquainted with the contents of the Bill, and I think the hon. Member should not attempt to make further progress with it now.

MR. CUST (Lincolnshire, Grantham)

I think there is no opposition to anything in the Bill or to the other Amendment I have to propose.

*THE PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. RITCHIE,) Tower Hamlets, St. George's

The whole of the Bill is simply to provide that allotments shall be treated as other agricultural land for local rating purposes.

MR. CONYBEARE (Cornwall, Camborne)

If the right hon. Gentleman expects us to listen to appeals on behalf of hon. Members opposite, it must be understood that we expect a quid pro quo in the shape of consideration for Bills in which we are interested.

Committee report Progress; to sit again to-morrow.
