HC Deb 04 June 1891 vol 353 cc1628-9
MR. SINCLAIR (Falkirk, &c.)

I beg to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in the instructions given to the artists for the preparation of new designs for gold, silver, and copper coinage, care has been taken to ensure that the value of each coin is expressed in words or figures upon it?

MR. GOSCHEN

The Memorandum furnished by the Committee on the Design of Coins to the artists invited to submit designs contains the following paragraph:— In the case of the florin the denomination should be expressed either on the obverse or reverse, but the indication of the value of the other coins is optional.
