HC Deb 30 January 1891 vol 349 c1391
MR. DAVID THOMAS

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in pursuance of the promise made in August last, he has further considered the suggestion that practical workmen should be appointed as Sub-assistant Inspectors of coal mines; and, if so, with what result?

MR. MATTHEWS

I have been considering this question, and I have obtained the assent of the Treasury to an increase in the Vote for mine inspection; but I cannot pledge myself to say that the suggestion will prove either practical or useful.
