HC Deb 20 February 1891 vol 350 c1229
MR. J. G. TALBOT (Oxford University)

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether his attention has been directed to the very inadequate lighting of the by-streets in the Eastern districts of London; and whether he could address representations to the Local Authorities, urging them to attend to this important matter?

THE SECRETARY TO THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. LONG,) Wilts, Devizes

My attention has not been directed to the inadequate lighting of the by-streets in the Eastern districts of London, and I have received no complaints on the subject. My right hon. Friend the Secretary for the Home Department has communicated with the Chief Commissioner of Police, with the view of ascertaining whether there are any by-streets in the districts referred to where additional lighting is required, and if it should appear to be necessary I will communicate with the Vestries of the parishes on the subject.
