HC Deb 20 February 1891 vol 350 cc1234-5
SIR T. ESMONDE, for Mr. FOLEY (Galway, Connemara)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether his special attention has been drawn to the immediate necessity of opening relief works in the Islands of Turbot and Innisturk and the townlands of Coolacly and Bally connell, with the view of preventing the poor people in these localities from dying for want of food; and whether he has taken any steps to relieve the destitute condition of the people?

THE CHIEF SECRETARY FOR IRELAND (Mr. A. J. BALFOUR, Manchester, E.)

Relief works have been ordered to be opened in the Islands mentioned. With regard to the townlands named, which happen to be in the Union of Clifden, railway works are in operation in their neighbourhood.
