HC Deb 16 February 1891 vol 350 cc673-4
MR. J. E. ELLIS (Nottingham, Rushcliffe)

I beg to ask the Postmaster General whether he is aware that the sub-postal and money order office in Walter Street, Nottingham, was closed without notice on the 2nd February, and that persons having money orders payable there have been put to great inconvenience thereby; and when the office will be again open to the public?

THE POSTMASTER GENERAL (Mr. RAIKES, Cambridge University)

The post office in Walter Street will be reopened for the transaction of Money Order business as soon as the necessary alteration can be made in the premises of the Receiver who has recently been nominated. No avoidable delay has occurred in the selection of a successor to the late Receiver, who was nominated in the usual way by the Treasury.

MR. J. E. ELLIS

I gather from the answer of the right hon. Gentleman that the delay has arisen from the old custom of nomination. Is that so?

MR. RAIKES

No, Sir; I did not say that. The delay has been unavoidable.
