HC Deb 23 April 1891 vol 352 c1162
MR. LEA (Londonderry, S.)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if his attention has been called to a statement in the Standard of April 18th— That a number of shipwrecked British sailors had been impressed by the Government of the Argentine Republic into service at a life saving station; that they had tried to escape, but were closely watched, and subject to cruel treatment; and whether inquiries had been made to test the truth of the statement, and also the names of the ships to which the sailors belonged, and their release demanded?

SIR J. FERGUSSON

Her Majesty's Government are taking steps to ascertain. the facts.
