HC Deb 07 March 1890 vol 342 cc248-9
MR. O'KEEFFE (Limerick City)

I beg to ask the Attorney General for Ireland under what Act of Parliament, or Law, the threatened billeting of policemen on tenants' houses in Glensharrold, County Limerick, is legal; and if, the magistrate's orders for possession being over two months old, the Sheriff can now legally act, having regard to Sub-section 2, Section 7, of "The Land Law (Ireland) Act, 1887"?

THE ATTORNEY GENERAL FOR IRELAND (Mr. MADDEN,) Dublin University

There is no intention to billet the police in any houses occupied by tenants; but upon the evictions being finally carried out it will be necessary for the landlord to provide house accommodation for the police requisitioned for the protection of the caretakers. I am in it aware of the dates of the legal processes in the case; but the sheriff will, I have no doubt, be guided by the requirements of the Statute in carrying out the evictions.
