§ MR. SYDNEY BUXTONI beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury 1652 whether the Government have abandoned the idea of legislating this Session in accordance with the suggestions contained in the Report of the Lords Committee on the Sweating System.
§ MR. W. H. SMITHMy right hon. Friend the Home Secretary informs me that he is preparing a Bill on this most important subject, and that there are some amendments to the existing law which, if the general consent of Members interested was forthcoming, might even, in what remains of the Session, be passed into law. The Government could not attempt to deal this Session with any controversial parts of the subject.
