HC Deb 07 July 1890 vol 346 cc919-20
MR. S. SMITH (Flintshire)

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether he can state the number of pauper children emigrated to the colonies during the last 12 months; and whether the modification of the Rules laid down by the Local Government Board in 1887 has perceptibly affected the progress of this movement?

*THE PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. RITCHIE, Tower Hamlets, St. George's)

The number of pauper children emigrated to Canada during the year ended December, 1889, was 428. The number during 1886, the year which preceded the issue of the revised conditions, was 164.
