HC Deb 27 February 1890 vol 341 c1444
(12.0.) THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. MATTHEWS, Birmingham, E.)

I ask leave of the House to bring in a Bill to amend and consolidate the law relating to the liability of employers for injuries to their workmen.

MR. A. O'CONNOR

I should like to hear from the right hon. Gentleman whether this Bill is the same in all respects as that which was introduced in a former Session, or whether the clause relating to the right of employers to contract themselves outside the Act has been discarded?

MR. J. R. KELLY (Camberwell, N.)

I should be glad if the right hon. Gentleman would also furnish some information as to the Insurance Clause.

MR. MATTHEWS

The Government will consider whether the clause referred to by the hon. Gentleman may not undergo some modification.

Bill presented, and read first time. [Bill 172.]
