HC Deb 04 December 1890 vol 349 c532
MR. JOHN O'CONNOR (Tipperary, S.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, according to his promise made at the conclusion of the last Session of Parliament, he has made inquiries into the condition of certain prisoners confined in Chatham Prison, with a view to their removal to another prison; and, if so, with what result?

MR. MATTHEWS

Yes, Sir; I have inquired into this matter, and am satisfied that the prisoners referred to have not suffered any ill-treatment or been placed under any disadvantage on account of the complaints that they have made Circumstances will, however, make it necessary before long to make a transfer of prisoners from Chatham to some other convict prison, and the prisoners referred to will be among those transferred, as soon as the requisite arrangements are completed.
