COGHILL (Newcastle-under-Lyne)I beg to ask the Home Secretary whether he can now state what was the character of the "boxing matches" at the Pelican Club; and whether he has 1761 obtained any reports from the police about it, or from any other quarter than "a member of the Committee of the Pelican Club?"
§ MR. MATTHEWSI am informed by the Commissioner of Police that he has no information to the effect that fights of an illegal character are carried on at the Pelican Club, nor has he reason to believe that such is the case. If the hon. Member is in possession of evidence to the contrary effect, and, will submit it to me, I will take what steps are necessary to provide against! any infraction of the law.
