HC Deb 11 March 1889 vol 333 c1376
MR. DONAL SULLIVAN

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether it is a fact that the Irish Education Office is the only Department of the Civil Service in Ireland where the system of fining clerks for late attendance is carried out; if so, will he state upon what grounds are those clerks subjected to this exceptional practice; and whether he will give directions to discontinue the system?

MR. A. J. BALFOUR

I believe the fact is as stated. I understand the practice has been approved by the Treasury, and has been in force in the Department for a very long period. I will communicate with the heads of the Department on the subject.
