Gentleman calls attention to a very important question, but until the schedules submitted by the railway companies, and the objections to them have been carefully considered by the Board of Trade, I do not think it would be desirable for me to make any specific statement as to what may be the decision arrived at. A system by which remuneration for short-distance haulage can be charged in two ways would be open to obvious objection.
