HC Deb 08 July 1889 vol 337 c1695
MR. H. H. FOWLER (Wolverhampton, E.)

The First Lord of the Treasury will remember that on Tuesday last I put a question to him as to the resignation of the County Court Judge of Circuit No. 5 in Lancashire. I was told that the Judge in question had not sent in his resignation, and that inquiries would be made as to the division of the Circuits, when a vacancy occurred. I find now that the resignation has taken place; that the vacancy was filled up on Thursday; and that the name of the new Judge was announced in the newspapers on Friday.

* MR. W. H. SMITH

I am informed that the district in which the vacancy occurred is one of very great commercial importance, and that my noble Friend the Chancellor of the Duchy found himself compelled to fill it up.
