HC Deb 08 July 1889 vol 337 cc1680-1
MR. BOWEN ROWLANDS (Cardiganshire)

I beg to ask the Postmaster General whether any appointment has yet been made to the Post Office at New Quay, Cardiganshire; whether a memorial has been received by the Government, signed by 623 adult inhabitants of the district, including persons of all parties, in favour of Mr. Hugh Davies, who had been employed under the late postmaster for 16 years, and had for eight of those years done all the indoor work; and, whether testimonials have been received in favour of Mr. Davies from the leading men of the neighbourhood?

* THE POSTMASTER GENERAL (Mr. RAIKES,) University of Cambridge

In reply to the hon. Member I have to state that no appointment has yet been made to the Post Office at New Quay, Cardiganshire. A numerously-signed memorial and testimonials have, I understand, been received in favour of Mr. Hugh Davies by the Government, and I have no doubt that Mr. Davies' claims, together with those of other applicants, will be fully considered by the Lords of the Treasury, 'with whom the nomination rests.
