HC Deb 01 July 1889 vol 337 c1143
MR. WILLIAM REDMOND (Fermanagh, N.)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the negotiations with the Government of China, on the question of Chinese emigration to Australia, have been completed; and, if not, whether Her Majesty's Government will push the matter on as quickly as possible?

THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE COLONIES (Baron H. de WORMS,) Liverpool, E. Toxteth

My right hon. Friend the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs will answer the question.

* THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Sir J. FERGUSSON,) Manchester, N.E.

The negotiations are not yet completed. As soon as the necessary arrangements are brought to a conclusion with the Australian Governments, Her Majesty's Government, who are most desirous of bringing matters to a happy issue, will push on the negotiations.
