PICKERSGILLI beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for the Home Department whether it is correct that William Wallace Brodie, who was recently charged on his own confession with the Whitechapel murder, was, in May, 1887, sentenced to 14 years' penal servitude, and was, in August, 1888, discharged on license; and, if so, of what offence was he convicted, and why was he discharged?

He was discharged on license in the ordinary course in August, 1888, after serving rather more than 11 years of his sentence.
