HC Deb 11 April 1889 vol 335 cc214-5
MR. I. DONAL SULLIVAN (West meath, S.)

asked the Secretary of State for War whether the examination for Militia Subalterns for entrance into the Regular Army was held on 13th and 14th March; whether there were only about 200 candidates; whether four papers only were set, one in law, one in fortification, one in tactics, one in topography, there being four examiners, one in each subject; and if he will inquire into the cause of the delay in making known the result?

MR. BRODRICK

The facts are as stated by the hon. Member. The result of the examination will be communicated to candidates to-day and published as soon as the list is printed. This being a strictly competitive examination, it was necessary to give the examiners sufficient time to do justice to the candidates. I may add that the result of this examination has rarely been published before the 15th of April.
