HC Deb 05 April 1889 vol 334 cc1706-7
VISCOUNT WOLMER

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is prepared to grant a Committee to inquire into the organization and administration of the Militia?

*THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR WAR (Mr. E. STANHOPE,) Lincolnshire, Horncastle

I have watched with great care the various suggestions which have been made by my noble Friend and others for improving the efficiency of the Militia, and I am of opinion that the time has come for considering them in detail with the view of taking action in the matter. With this object I have convened a conference of all the commanding officers of Militia shortly after Easter, and the fur- ther action which it may be necessary to take must largely depend upon the result of that conference. I am confident of receiving the cordial co-operation of all interested in the efficiency of the Militia.
