HC Deb 23 November 1888 vol 331 cc9-10
MR. CONYBEARE (Cornwall, Camborne)

asked the Secretary to the Treasury, When it is proposed to apply the seven hours' system to the Statistical Department of the Customs; whether it is a fact that the new classification is agreed upon, and is now awaiting the assent of the Treasury authorities; and, what is the reason (if any) for the continued postponement of the proposed re-organization of that Department?

THE SECRETARY (Mr. JACKSON) (LEEDS, N.)

It is proposed to apply the seven hours' system to the Statistical Office of the Customs upon the basis of its present establishment. The question of a new classification is being considered by the Treasury in connection with the general questions of rearrangements of staff involved in the adoption of the seven hours' system, recommended by the Royal Commission.
