HC Deb 19 November 1888 vol 330 c1517
MR. PRITCHARD MORGAN (Merthyr Tydvil)

asked the First Lord of the Treasury, in view of the strained relations between the Government of Queensland and the British Government, will he appoint a special day for the purpose of giving the House an opportunity of expressing its opinion on this important subject?

MR. HENNIKER HEATON (Canterbury)

also inquired what reply had been sent to the telegram of the Prime Minister of Queensland?

THE FIRST LORD (Mr. W. H. SMITH) (Strand, Westminster)

The Government do not consider it desirable to appoint a day for the discussion of the relations between this country and Queensland, as such discussion, in their view, would be premature and injurious to the public interests. The Acting Governor has been informed by telegraph that the subject is receiving the serious consideration of the Government; and I am confident a solution of the difficulty will be arrived at by the exercise of moderation and good sense on the part of the authorities at home and in the Colony.
