HC Deb 09 November 1888 vol 330 cc774-5
MR. CHILDERS (Edinburgh, S.)

asked the Under Secretary of State for the Colonies, Whether he had seen in the newspapers the statement that a despatch had been sent to the Agent General for Queensland in London by Sir T. M'Ilwraith, Premier, to the effect that the news of Sir H. A. Blake's appointment to the Governorship of that Colony had been received there with general indignation and astonishment?

THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE (Baron HENRY DE WORMS) (Liverpool, East Toxteth)

In answer to the right hon. Gentleman, I have to say that the same despatch was sent to the Foreign Office and the Colonial Office simultaneously with its publication in the papers. I have forwarded it on to the Secretary of State, who is now at Balmoral.
