CONYBEARE (Cornwall, Camborne)asked Mr. Attorney General, Whether the sale and publishing of proposals for the sale of foreign lottery tickets in this country is not illegal under Statute 4 Geo. IV., c. 60; and, if so, whether he will direct the Public Prosecutor to enforce the law against the publishers and proprietors of The Southwark Standard and South London News for publishing such proposals on the 5th instant, relating to a drawing of lottery prizes to take place on the 25th instant.
§ THE ATTORNEY GENERAL (Sir RICHARD WEBSTER) (Isle of Wight)The sale and publication of the proposals for sale of lottery tickets in this country is illegal. I have not seen the advertisement to which the hon. Member refers; but if he will give me particulars I will bring it to the notice of the proper authorities.
