HC Deb 04 May 1888 vol 325 cc1357-8
MR. MILDMAY (Devon, Totnes)

asked the President of the Local Government Board, Whether the Local Government Board still adhere to their proposal to issue an Order constituting a Port Sanitary Authority for Dartmouth; and, whether, seeing that a Local Government Bill, based upon a representative system, has been brought in, they will consider the advisability of postponing the constitution of the proposed authority until after the passing of the Local Government Bill, when it can be brought into harmony with the provisions of the Bill?

THE PRESIDENT (Mr. RITCHIE) (Tower Hamlets, St. George's)

The Local Government Board have deemed it necessary to issue an Order constituting a Port Sanitary Authority for Dartmouth. The Order has been ob- jected to by the borough of Totnes, and will not take effect until it has been confirmed by Parliament, and the Order will be submitted for confirmation. The provisions of the Local Government Bill do not, in my opinion, afford any ground for not proceeding with the Order.
