HC Deb 26 March 1888 vol 324 c245
MR. DIXON-HARTLAND (Middlesex, Uxbridge)

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether, having regard to the destruction of another theatre by fire at Oporto, where a great number of lives have been lost, he can state when it is the intention of Her Majesty's Government to introduce their Theatres Bill, to diminish, as much as possible, the risk of such accidents in England?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE (Mr. MATTHEWS) (Birmingham, E.)

The Government have decided not to introduce a Bill on this subject.

MR. DIXON-HARTLAND

inquired whether, that being so, the Government would no longer continue to block his Bill.

MR. MATTHEWS

I can give no undertaking to my hon. Friend on this subject.
