HC Deb 11 June 1888 vol 326 c1715
COLONEL EYRE (Lincolnshire, Gainsborough)

asked Mr. Attorney General, Whether his attention has been called to the case of "Thomas Yoxall and John Yoxall v. William Coggan," butcher, at the Police Court, Westminster, on the 5th of June, in which evidence appears to have been given that butchers are in the habit of selling foreign meat as English; and, whether the selling meat as English which the butcher was well aware was foreign, and consequently of less market value, could be made the subject of criminal prosecution?

THE ATTORNEY GENERAL (Sir RICHARD WEBSTER) (Isle of Wight)

In reply to the hon. and gallant Member, my attention has not been called to the case in question. Whether the selling of meat as English which the butcher knew to be foreign can be made the subject of criminal proceedings would depend entirely upon the circumstances under which the meat was sold.
