HC Deb 17 July 1888 vol 328 cc1519-20
MR. PINKERTON (Galway)

asked the Secretary to the Treasury, If the Government contemplate taking any steps to relieve the inhabitants of the Lough Corrib drainage district from the injury inflicted on them by the periodical overflowing of the lake through insuffi- ciency of present outlets; and, whether, considering that 13,000 acres are annually injured, he will see the advisability of including it in the Government drainage scheme?

THE SECRETARY (Mr. JACKSON) (Leeds, N.)

I am not aware of any intention on the part of the Government of including Lough Corrib in the drainage proposals now before the House. The question was not before the late Royal Commission on Irish Public Works. I may say that the Lough Corrib drainage works are not under the control of the Government; but I am informed that every effort is made by the Drainage Board to prevent the flooding of the low-lying lands.
