HC Deb 09 July 1888 vol 328 cc729-30
MR. HENNIKER HEATON (Canterbury)

asked the Postmaster General, Whether an agreement has been made between France and England for conducting the telegraph service between the two countries independent of any private Company; and, whether he is prepared to state the nature of the agreement entered into and the rate per word of the cable messages which has been decided on?

THE POSTMASTER GENERAL (Mr. RAIKES) (Cambridge University)

In reply to the hon. Member, I have to state that I am not yet in a position, with a due regard to the public interest, to give any information on this subject. As soon as the negotiations have reached a point admitting of it, I shall be glad to inform the House as to the arrangements contemplated.
