HC Deb 06 July 1888 vol 328 cc569-70
MR. CAUSTON (Southwark, W.)

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether he will consent to the appointment of a Select Committee to inquire generally into the question of Prison Labour?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE (Mr. MATTHEWS) (Birmingham, E.)

I am not aware that any question has arisen with regard to prison labour generally which demands investigation. I am not, therefore, disposed to consent to the appointment of a Select Committtee, especially at this period of the Session.
