HC Deb 02 July 1888 vol 328 cc60-1
MR. CONYBEARE (Cornwall, Camborne)

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, Whether, as the Admiralty refuse to pay any commission to banks on discounting Navy bills, which are payable at three days' sight, there would be any objection to placing these bills on the same footing as Army bills, which are payable on demand?

THE FIRST LORD OF THE ADMIRALTY (Lord GEORGE HAMILTON) (Middlesex, Ealing)

(who replied) said: The Admiralty only refuses to pay commission for discounting Navy bills in places where the money can be obtained without payment of any such commission. The question of placing Navy bills on the same footing as Army bills is already under consideration.
