HC Deb 23 February 1888 vol 322 cc1217-8
MR. P. M'DONALD (Sligo, N.)

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, Whether the Government purpose to carry into effect the recommendations of the Royal Commissioners on Irish Public Works, made in their Report just issued; and, if so, whether the required amount will be included in the next Estimates, and a Bill brought in with the least possible delay to obtain the sanction of the House to the proposed expenditure, so that the works may be entered on as early as possible during the coming summer; and, whether the landing piers recommended by the Commission for Rosse's Point and other places on the West Coast of Ireland will be commenced at an early date?

THE PARLIAMENTARY UNDER SECRETARY FOR IRELAND (Colonel KING-HARMAN) (Kent, Isle of Thanet)

My right hon. Friend has asked me to reply to this Question. The Report to which the hon. Member refers is, as he is doubtless aware, one dealing with very large questions which will require careful consideration. It has been in the hands of the Government too short a time to enable them to say what recommendations of the Royal Commissioners they are prepared to accept.
