HC Deb 11 December 1888 vol 331 cc1745-6
MR. MENZIES (Perthshire, E.)

asked the Lord Advocate, Whether the attention of the Board of Supervision has been called to the extremely insanitary condition of the bothy accommodation provided for the salmon fishermen on the River Tay, and the neglect of the Local Authorities to take action in the matter; and, in the event of the Board of Supervision not having had their attention directed to the subject, whether he will take steps to bring it to their notice?

THE LORD ADVOCATE (Mr. J. P. B. ROBERTSON) (Bute)

The attention of the Board of Supervision was directed some time ago to the condition of the bothy accommodation provided for salmon fishermen in the parishes of Kinnoul, Kinfauns, Newburgh, Abernethy, St. Madoes, and Rhynd; and the Board have been in communication with the Local Authorities on the subject. The Local Authority of Kinnoul state that they have complied with the recommendations of the Board. The Local Authority of Kinfauns have instructed their Sanitary Inspector to visit at intervals, and see that the houses are properly cleaned and repaired before occupation. The Local Authority of Abernethy have called upon the owners to remove the sanitary defects; and the medical officer of St. Madoes reports that he considers the accommodation sufficient. The Board are still in correspondence with the other Local Authorities; and they propose to have a Report from their own inspecting officer on the subject before the fishing season commences.
