HC Deb 11 December 1888 vol 331 c1756
MR. HOZIER (Lanarkshire, S.)

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, Whether he can make arrangements whereby bills of exchange may be stamped in Glasgow?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Mr. GOSCHEN) (St. George's, Hanover Square)

The arrangement contemplated by my hon. Friend's Question would involve a considerable expenditure on a separate stamping establishment at Glasgow—an expenditure which could not be compensated by saving elsewhere. I am not convinced that the practical inconvenience of the present system is sufficiently great to justify the expense proposed.
