HC Deb 04 December 1888 vol 331 c1019
MR. CALEB WRIGHT (Lancashire, S.W., Leigh)

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, When the Return, promised in May last, in continuation of the Return of 1883, No. 338, may be expected to be in the hands of Members, showing the number of Victuallers', Beerhouse, and other Licences for the Sale of Intoxicating Liquors, the renewal of which have been refused in the year 1886 and the four preceding years by Justices of the Peace in eachlicensing district, showing in each case the ground of refusal, especially upon the ground, in any instance, that the licence was not required?

THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE FOB THE HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. STUART-WORTLEY)(who replied) said (Sheffield, Hallam)

The Return referred to by the hon. Member was never moved for, and has, therefore, never been ordered by the House. The Home Office has, however, taken steps to collect information for such a Return; which, if the hon. Member thinks fit to move for it, will be given in as complete a form as possible. Perhaps the hon. Member will communicate with me as to the wording of the Motion.
