HC Deb 23 April 1888 vol 325 cc151-2
MR. W. G. C. BENTINCK (Penryn and Falmouth)

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether the system of granting good conduct badges, at present in vogue in the Army and Post Office Departments, could be extended to the Metropolitan Police Force, whereby their length of service and good conduct could be recognized?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE (Mr. MATTHEWS) (Birmingham, E.)

I have consulted the Chief Commissioner of Police as to the suggestion of my hon. Friend; and he is of opinion that the system of good conduct badges could not be advantageously introduced in the Metropolitan Police Force. The long service and good conduct of a man are, under the present system, always carefully considered and rewarded.
