HC Deb 02 September 1887 vol 320 cc899-900
SIR GEORGE CAMPBELL (Kirkcaldy, &c.)

asked the First Commissioner of Works, If he has yet taken any steps in the hope of arresting the mortality among the trees in Kensington Gardens; and if, in the Recess, he proposes to do anything beyond the cutting down of large numbers of the dead and the dying which is now going on?

THE FIRST COMMISSIONER (Mr. PLUNKET) (Dublin University)

We believe that the reduction of the depth of water in the Round Pond which was effected last year has done something towards arresting the mortality among the trees in Kensington Gardens; and we are preparing for planting as much as possible during the autumn, and also, as far as we can, draining the land on which we plant.
