HC Deb 09 May 1887 vol 314 cc1268-9
MR. M'LAREN (Cheshire, Crewe)

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether, in view of the Amendments on the Notice Paper to be moved in Committee on the Coal, Mines, &c. Regulation Bill, to prohibit future labour by women and girls at the pit's bank, he will consent to receive a deputation of those opposed to such prohibition; and, whether he will postpone the Committee on the Bill for at least a week, in order to give the women who work at the pit's bank an opportunity of making their views known?

THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE (Mr. STUART-WORTLEY) (Sheffield, Hallam)

(who replied) said: The Secretary of State will have much pleasure in receiving a deputation of those opposed to the prohibition of labour by women and girls at the pit bank. He will undertake that discussion on the clauses of the Bill in Committee shall be postponed for a week; but will avail himself of the earliest opportunity to take the general discussion before going into Committee, which is desired by some hon. Members.
