HC Deb 29 March 1887 vol 312 c1780
MR. J. E. ELLIS (Nottingham, Rushcliffe)

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, Whether he will consent to refer the cases he quoted to the House on Monday, 28th, as proofs of the necessity for increasing the stringency of the Criminal Law in Ireland, to a Select Committee, for investigation as to their truth or otherwise?

THE CHIEF SECRETARY (Mr. A. J. BALFOUR) (Manchester, E.)

I do not think a Committee would be in a better position than myself to test the accuracy of the statements of fact which I laid before the House.
