HC Deb 28 March 1887 vol 312 c1608
MR. J. E. ELLIS (Nottingham, Rushcliffe)

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, Whether he will consent to a Return of Landed Proprietors (Ireland) for 1886, in the same form as that ordered to be printed 23rd April, 1872, No. 167?

THE CHIEF SECRETARY (Mr. A. J. BALFOUR) (Manchester, E.)

The Return referred to was compiled mainly through the agency of the Inspectors under the Local Government Board; and these officers are now so fully occupied that, without an increase to their numbers, the preparation of a similar Return could not be undertaken at present. I am not satisfied that there is any such necessity for the information as would justify me in asking the House to agree to a special Vote for the purpose.
