HC Deb 04 March 1887 vol 311 c1261
MR. LLEWELLYN (Somerset, N.)

asked the President of the Local Government Board, Whether he has considered the present state of the law relating to the settlement and removal of the poor, in view of the hardship entailed on the poor themselves and expense to the ratepayers; and, whether he is willing to introduce some amendment to remedy the chief objections?

THE PRESIDENT (MR. RITCHIE) (Tower Hamlets, St. George's)

I am afraid that I cannot hold out any hope to my hon. Friend that I shall be able to propose any legislation with regard to defects in the Law of Settlement during the present Session.
