HC Deb 29 July 1887 vol 318 cc549-50
CAPTAIN PENTON (Finsbury, Central)

asked the Postmaster General, Whether he has yet selected the site for the now buildings, in connection with the Post Office, which it is proposed to erect on part of the present site of the disused Coldbath Fields Prison; and, how much of the ground will be required for the purpose?

THE POSTMASTER GENERAL (Mr. RAIKES) (Cambridge University)

Considering how desirable it is to obtain a large area for Post Office work towards the northern railway termini, I have been in communication with the Treasury, with a view of obtaining part of the site of Coldbath Fields Prison; and, although the matter is not yet settled, I hope that at least half will be appropriated for that purpose.
