HC Deb 08 July 1887 vol 317 c211
MR. T. W. RUSSELL (Tyrone, S.)

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, Whether passes in the essential subjects of the Fifth Class, first stage, constitute the minimum proficiency required of a candidate for monitorship in an Irish National School; and, if the candidates are examined specially for the appointment?

THE PARLIAMENTARY UNDER SECRETARY (Colonel KING-HARMAN) (Kent, Isle of Thanet)

(who replied) said: The qualification required of a candidate for monitorship in an Irish National School is as described in the Question. Candidates are examined specially for the appointment, if necessary. They are, however, usually examined at the last results examination.
