HC Deb 31 January 1887 vol 310 c268
MR. O'HEA (Donegal, W.)

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, If, having regard to the importance of the work in connection with the Labourers' Ireland Acts, and the desirability of having services of the various forms under those Acts properly effected, he will give a direction to the Inspector General of the Royal Irish Constabulary to have those services effected by the members of the police force, in the same way as voting papers in connection with the election of Poor Law Guardians are served by them upon the persons entitled to vote at those elections?

THE CHIEF SECRETARY (Sir MICHAEL HICKS-BEACH) (Bristol, W.)

The Government are not aware of any reason why the Sanitary Authority should not continue to perform this duty, and they are not prepared at present to throw it on the Constabulary.
