HC Deb 08 February 1887 vol 310 cc877-8
MR. W. J. CORBET (Wicklow, E.)

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, What progress has been made with the works at Arklow Harbour; whether anything has been done in regard to the north pier or any dredging at the entrances of the harbour and, what progress is being made with the works at Greystones?

THE SECRETARY TO THE TREASURY (Mr. JACKSON) (Leeds, N.)

(who replied) said: The south or main pier at Arklow has been completed, with the exception of some unimportant work which is expected to be finished early in April. As regards the north groyne, the concrete blocks have been made, and the contractor has given notice that he will be able to proceed with the work early in March; but before anything further is done, the question of the incidence of the cost of this portion of the work will have to be determined, in accordance with the provisions of the Arklow Harbour Act. It is hoped that dredging will not be required at the harbour entrance. In continuation of the reply which I made to a Question of the hon. Member on the subject of Greystones Pier and Boatslip in September last, I have to say that a fresh contract for the execution of the works was entered into, but continued bad weather has prevented any considerable progress being made. If adequate progress is not made by the new contractor, the contract will be determined, and other steps taken for the completion of the works.
