HC Deb 01 February 1887 vol 310 cc391-2
MR. ARTHUR O'CONNOR (Donegal, E.)

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether the Government have, since the last Session, taken any steps to inform themselves as to the proposed site for a cemetery at Sutton; what was the nature of the information obtained; and, what the Government propose to do in the matter?

THE PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. RITCHIE) (Tower Hamlets, St. George's)

(who replied) said: I presume the hon. Member refers to the site situated between the Banstead and Brighton roads. The Sutton Burial Board applied to the Local Government Board to approve of the appropriation of that site for the purpose of a cemetery. After a public inquiry by one of their Inspectors, the Board felt themselves unable to give the approval asked for, and they have so informed the Burial Board.
