HC Deb 22 August 1887 vol 319 c1360
GENERAL SIR GEORGE BALFOUR (Kincardine)

asked the Secretary to the Treasury, If he will state the amount of Income Tax derived from the capital of the several classes of Annuities mentioned by him, also the amount of Income Tax derived from the interest forming part of the several classes of the Annuities, showing the total from both sources?

THE SECRETARY (Mr. JACKSON) (Leeds, N.)

No distinction is observed between capital and interest in the assessment of Income Tax on Life and Terms of Years Annuities held by the public; as explained in the answer to the hon. Member's former Question, the Income Tax paid in respect of a portion of the Chancery Annuity only represents the tax upon the dividends of Stock standing in the names of the suitors.

GENERAL SIR GEORGE BALFOUR

I beg to say I am not satisfied with the answer.
