HC Deb 15 August 1887 vol 319 c476
COLONEL DUNCAN (Finsbury, Holborn)

asked the Secretary of State for War, Whether the regimental colonels of the Royal Artillery who have been compulsorily retired under recent Warrants, and deprived of advantages to which they had reasonably looked forward, are to be treated in a less liberal manner than colonels in the Royal Engineers similarly retired; and, if so, whether the reason can be stated?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE (Mr. E. STANHOPE) (Lincolnshire, Horncastle)

The compensation granted to colonels of Artillery is calculated in precisely the same manner as that of colonels of Engineers; but, inasmuch as during employment the emoluments of the latter exceed those of the former on the average, the compensation of the Engineer colonel comes to the larger sum.
